Jiří Valoch, art theorist, curator, artist and poet, was born in 1946. In 1970 Valoch earned his degree in Czech and German languages and aesthetics at Masaryk University in Brno. His thesis was on the development of typology and experimental poetry. Valoch has been creating visual poetry since 1963, and from 1966 he has been working as art critic, theoretician and curator. Between 1972 and 2001 he curated exhibitions at the House of the Arts of the City of Brno (Dom umění města Brna). Following his ehibition on Contemporary Czech Drawing, all forms of his publications were banned. From the early seventies, he participated in the organization of informal exhibitions in several different spaces throughout Czechoslovakia. In the eighties, he organized and curated a critical retrospective of the Czech artists V. Bostik, M. Knížák and others, and after the 1990, his exhibitions included the international artists R.P. Lahnse, G. Gräser, R. Mieldsam, and R. Barry. Since 1966. Valoch has exhibited in the numerous individual and collective exhibitions at home and abroad. From 1968 to 1972 he was a member of Klub konkretistu (Clu of Concretists).
