Andrzej Lachowicz, one the most significant representatives of Polish Neo-Avant-Garde, passed away on December 30, 2015. The legacy of his artworks, his involvement in organizing and founding of art festivals and galleries, as well as his contributions to art theory added greatly to the corpora of Avant-Garde art and influenced many artists and experts.
He will be deeply missed.
Lachowicz was born in 1939 in Vilnius. He was a co-founder of the neo-avant-garde group and gallery called Permafo, established in 1970.He was married to Natalia Lach-Lachowitz, who is as well an influential artists, also one of the founders of Permafo Gallery.
Thought his career, he made significant contribution to art theory. He was the initiator of the International Drawing Triennale in Wrocław, organised from 1978 to 1995.He worked in fields of painting, graphic design, drawing, photography, film and art theory. Since the 60s Lachowicz concentrated on the study of the visual language of photography.
