1971 - 1977
country
Ex Yugoslavia
period
1968-1989

The Šempas Family was formed in 1971, after the conscious decision to dissolve OHO. This marked the ending of art practice by OHO members and attempted to establish a community which would live in harmony with its members and nature. It took the form of an agricultural commune creative in the arts. The group was named after the village of Sempas in Vipava valley in Slovenia, to which its members retreated. Family of Sempas represented art from Yugoslavia at the 1978 Venice Biennial, dedicated to the relationship between art and nature.

The Šempas Family members were: Bojan Brecelj (1953), Andrej Klančar (1953), Marika Pogačnik (1947), Ajra Pogačnik (1967), Nike Pogačnik (1970), Ana Pogačnik (1973) and Marko Pogačnik (1944).
