The International Committee for Design History and Design Studies (ICDHS) is an international organization of scientists and experts founded in 1999 in Barcelona with the aim of advancing, disseminating and exchanging knowledge in the field of design history and theory. To this end, the ICDHS biennially organizes a thematic international conference which has so far been held in a dozen world cities such as Istanbul (2002), Guadalajara (2004), Helsinki (2006), Osaka (2008), Aveira (2014). This has contributed to the global progress and visibility of the profession in Latin America, Europe and Asia.
The twelfth ICDHS conference was held from 16 to 19 October 2020 in an online edition, organized by the Institute for Research of the Avant-Garde and under the scientific coordination of prof.dr.sc. Fedja Vukic. Over 60 papers were presented at the conference, which was published in the conference proceedings entitled “Lesson to Learn? Past Design Experiences and Contemporary Design Practice ”
The book, edited by Fedja Vukić and Iva Kostešić, brings a collection of over 60 scientific papers on over 800 pages covering the wide field of design history and design studies from a variety of perspectives.
