Andrija Maurović (Muo, Bay of Kotor , 1901 - Zagreb, 1981) in 1922 enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, abandoning his studies the following year. From 1925, he worked as an illustrator, and in 1934/1935 created his first comic strips. He is one of the founders of the so-called Zagreb School of Author's Comics. He worked for the satirical magazine Koprive / Nettles, the magazine Novosti / News and the leisure magazines Eye and Mickey Comics. By 1945 Maurović had created 40 comics, among them  Ljubavnica s Marsa / Mistress from Mars (1935), Ognjem i Mačem / With Fire and Sword (1935), Trojica u mraku / Three in the Dark and Sedma žrtva / The Seventh Victim (1936). After 1945 his numerous comics were published in the magazines Horizont / Horizon, Plavi vjesnik / Blue Journal and Plava Lasta / Blue Swallow. During the 1970-ies he painted figurative compositions with cataclysmic content.
