Rena & Vladan (Rena Rädle and Vladan Jeremić) are Belgrade-based artists whose artistic practise includes drawings, texts, video and photography works. In their collaborative practice, which started in 2002, they explore the relation between art and politics, unveiling the contradictions of today’s societies and developing transformative potentials of art in the context of social struggles. They engage with current debates and struggles in collaboration with social movements.

Rena & Vladan send a photo from their studio where they work on new performative drawings and think a lot about everything that is happening. "This crisis has sharply called into question the current order, which in turn has brought the possibility for radical change. Among other things, art has a responsibility to point out the spaces of hope and solidarity and to try to conceive of the inevitable change in a positive direction. This period should be used to reflect and find other forms of work and life, without the imperative of constant economic growth, which is no longer possible because the planet's resources are depleted. "

Artists Respond project was started by the Institute for the Research of the Avant-Garde and the Marinko Sudac Collection. Addressing the current global pandemic, the project aims to virtually present the thoughts and attitudes of neo-avant-garde artists, their energy and the message they have for the present moment. This is the moment in which the world as we know it is on hold and the moment in which we need optimism and solidarity more than ever. We wish for the public to welcome the creative energy of these artists - artists who are ready to point out the state of things, to respond with art and creativity, as they have done in all difficult times in the past.

Rena & Vladan participated in our Artist on Vacation project in 2019, organised by the Institute for the Research of the Avant-Garde and the Marinko Sudac Collection, with Valamar Riviera d.d. in whose facilities they reside in Poreč.
