"ARTISTS RESPOND" PROJECT: MILOŠ ŠEJN (Czechia)
28. April 2020

Miloš Šejn (b. 1947, Jablonec nad Nisou) works in the fields of drawing, painting, photography, film, installations, and events, - all with a focus on intermediality. Šejn’s principal thematic direction is nature, which he perceives as the root and basis of creation. He frequently mimicries in natural environments,  or uses mapping techniques to document his perception of them.

Miloš Šejn sends us from his home in Jičin, his contribution to the project - a photo-collage titled I’m Ready to Die, but at the Moment of Not Dying I Know That I Will Stay A Human Being. In this work, he lets algae of Trojický pond become his second skin, merging not only with it but also with the whole of the aquatic life living under it – thus becoming a whole with it.

Artists Respond project was started by the Institute for the Research of the Avant-Garde and the Marinko Sudac Collection. Addressing the current global pandemic, the project aims to virtually present the thoughts and attitudes of neo-avant-garde artists, their energy and the message they have for the present moment. This is the moment in which the world as we know it is on hold and the moment in which we need optimism and solidarity more than ever. We wish for the public to welcome the creative energy of these artists - artists who are ready to point out the state of things, to respond with art and creativity, as they have done in all difficult times in the past.

Miloš Šejn was a participant of our Artist on Vacation project in 2015, organised by the Institute for the Research of the Avant-Garde and the Marinko Sudac Collection, with Valamar Riviera d.d. in whose facilities they reside in Poreč.
